Austria {Part One - The Mountains}

My sister, Jenn, came over to Europe to spend Christmas with us over a ski holiday.  We met in Munich, rented a car and headed for our home base, Innsbruck, Austria.

The plan was to ski a few days, cook Christmas dinner and check out Innsbruck, before flying back to Ireland and showing Jenn around our new home.

None of us have ever skied (or snowboarded) in Europe, and we were not disappointed.  The mountains were incredible, the views spectacular and the on mountain ambiance was perfect.  We truly felt as if we were skiing in a postcard.

We spent 1 day skiing at Solden, which is known for, along with some incredible slopes, their 30 on-mountain huts.  They were picture perfect mid-mountain Alpine Huts.  The real thing.  Nestled in the middle of the alps, these small, independent run huts served goulash soup and beer to hungry and tired skiers.

The second day we spend skiing at St Anton, which is the most famous resorts in the region.  It's known as the place that invented Apre Ski.  We were even more blown away by the scenery, the views and the mountain than the day before.  There was good snow coverage, but not quite enough for all the off-piste pitches to be open.  But no shortage of skiing, we hardly scraped the surface of the mountain.

Apparently this place, which is near the bottom of the slopes, gets crazy.
Since it was Christmas Eve, it was pretty quiet when we were there.
It's always listed as one of the worlds best Apre Ski places.
Been there, done that!
After a good day skiing, it's back home we go
It was so nice that Jenn was able to be with us over Christmas.  We had two incredible days on the mountain, days that we will be talking about for years to come.  Up next, Christmas day in Innsbruck.
