Ireland {Howth, Malahide & Kilkenny}

Image
I know, we are super far behind on the blog and there is a lot to catch up on.  To close out Jenn's visit to Europe (after our ski weekend in Austria , and checking out Innsbruck and Munich ), we brought Jenn back to Dublin to see our home. We took a few day trips.  We first drove north of Dublin to Howth & Malahide.  The second we drove southwest to Kilkenny.  We wanted her to get a feel for Ireland, showing her the coast, some castles and the beautiful Irish countryside. All aboard in the teeny car that takes us far! First stop, Malahide Castle Amazingly, this was a private residence until the 1960's Necessary Irish & EU flag shot In Howth for lunch.  A cute little seaside village, known for fresh seafood Howth harbor The sky wasn't as blue when we went to Kilkenny, but it was still a good day.  Kilkenny is a small medieval country town, known for it's castle, and it's pub lined streets and good craic (good atmosph...

Austria {Part Two - Innsbruck & Munich}

First of all, apologies for being SO far behind on the blog.  I'm still catching up from the holidays. After two unforgettable days skiing in the Austria, Jenn, Brain and I spent Christmas day checking out Innsbruck, then we had a fantastic Christmas dinner in our apartment. Sisters, on top of the funicular This is why we have so many amazing photos from the trip :) Enjoying some  Glühwein  (Hot Wine) at the Christmas Market The Christmas Market - people say that Germany & Austria have the best Christmas Markets, and it was pretty cool.  There were stalls everywhere in the city. We only were able to enjoy them 1 day because they shut down on Christmas Eve, which was our 2nd day. Traditional sweets at the market At the main square looking at the famous Golden Roof. The whole city is surrounded by beautiful mountains, you can see them in the background. One of the Giant statues we passed in the center Alpine archite...

Austria {Part One - The Mountains}

Image
My sister, Jenn, came over to Europe to spend Christmas with us over a ski holiday.  We met in Munich, rented a car and headed for our home base, Innsbruck, Austria. The plan was to ski a few days, cook Christmas dinner and check out Innsbruck, before flying back to Ireland and showing Jenn around our new home. None of us have ever skied (or snowboarded) in Europe, and we were not disappointed.  The mountains were incredible, the views spectacular and the on mountain ambiance was perfect.  We truly felt as if we were skiing in a postcard. We spent 1 day skiing at Solden, which is known for, along with some incredible slopes, their 30 on-mountain huts.  They were picture perfect mid-mountain Alpine Huts.  The real thing.  Nestled in the middle of the alps, these small, independent run huts served goulash soup and beer to hungry and tired skiers. Beautiful mountains   sisters On the slopes On mountain lunch   View from the l...
