Halloween Weekend in Seattle

We took a quick break from the Lederman Kitchen for an impromptu weekend up in Seattle.  Of course it was cold, cloudy, and sometimes rainy, but we still had a blast.  

After meeting the wife at the Space Needle (she had a work event there), we grabbed a late bite at Serious Pie.  Seriously, it's amazing pizza.  We got a couple of pints and a mushroom and truffle pie.  I keep forgetting that we are making a food blog though and am forgetting to take pictures... 

The next day we cruised down to Pike's Place Market.  It's really an interesting mix between a very touristy area, and a great local market.  It really reminded me of some of the markets we saw in France, and of course the Ferry Building in San Francisco as well.  

There was a great selection of local produce, flowers, artisanal meets and cheeses, and plenty of seafood.

I really wished that we didn't have breakfast right before heading over to the market.  It's an amazing place to sample some great local treats.  

Across the street from the market is the first Starbucks store.  It was cool, but looks like any other Starbucks...  Still, I got a tall coffee and was pretty pleased.

We ended up heading over to the Experience Music Project to get out of the rain.  After the museum I dragged the wife back to the market for some meat on a stick and clam chowder.  I still can't believe that we left without trying any crab.

Later that night we met up with our friends, Laure, Ryan, and their new dog Norris.  

We completely crashed their weekend, but our hosts were more than gracious.  They invited us to a fundraiser auction on Friday night.  I ended up buying a globe.  While we love the globe, it definitely was not the easiest item to transport home. 

We explored a few neighborhoods on Saturday and on Ryan's suggestion had an amazing lunch at Red Mill Burgers.  Crazy long lines, but definitely worth the wait.  That night we headed over to one of their friend's houses for a Halloween party. 

The next day the wife and I ended up checking out some more neighborhoods and had a great brunch at Tilth before heading home.  The wife had a side of oatmeal and a fig salad.  I took another route...  The cheddar biscuits with pulled chicken, gravy, and sunny side up egg was absurd.  Really tasty, definitely not lite.  

We walked around for a few more hours before our flight and ended up stumbling on a farmers market in the Fremont neighborhood.  We saw some amazing Chanterelle Mushrooms for $8/lb and had to buy some to bring home.  Our souvenirs included a globe, a couple new North Face items to deal with the weather, a new magnet for the fridge (of course), a used Johnny Cash live at San Quentin record, and a pound of mushrooms.  See you again soon Seattle.
